Point your rental car in the direction of the southeast of the country and spend some time at the Hallyeo Maritime National Park. Visitors can opt to spend a bit of time cruising around the islands – although there are around 400 in total! It is the site of 16th century sea battles but you don’t have to get your feet wet to appreciate it – hire a bicycle and use the marked trails to make the most of the views.
If you are interested in the history of the country, head for Gyeongju where you can see the ‘museum without walls’. If you want to go hiking then the Seoraksan National Park is the place to go. The mountain range here has been labelled the most beautiful landscaped in the country. Alongside the waterfalls, streams and forests there are also temples. If you want to trek for more than a day it is recommended to take along a guide.
