There are a number of breweries in Luxembourg that welcome visitors. Towns like Bascharage and Wiltz have several options, including the Béierhaascht brewery hotel – perfect for beer enthusiasts! However, not everyone is keen on beer and for this reason there are wine tours too. Head for the south east of the country to the Moselle region and you can take a tour of one of the larger wineries. You usually need to pay a fee but this will include a tasting. Smaller wineries can only be visited by appointment.
If you want to hire a car in Luxembourg it will make it easier to visit towns like Clervaux. This is a medieval market town that is home to a castle that dates back to the 12th century. The castle now houses a number of government offices, the local tourist information office, a museum that covers the ‘Battle of the Bulge’ (the Ardennes offensive) and a collection of art photography. You can also spend some time in the museums in the capital. The National Museum of Natural History is a great place for all the family and the Museum of the City of Luxembourg is also popular.
The main square in Luxembourg City is the Place d’Armes. Here you can enjoy a drink and a meal al fresco and there are plenty of places nearby that have great cafes and restaurants. Try the Grund, which can be found close to the River Alzette which you reach via a lift that takes you underground through the rock. The old town has underground tunnels but you can also try the tourist train that takes you around the Pétrusse Valley. The official resident of the Grand Duke can be seen here and it is open to the public during July and August. For a few bargains or just retail therapy head to the Place Guillaume II where there is a market held twice a week.
There are some great spa resorts in Luxembourg and you can try those at Mondorf-les-Bains where there are also sports and leisure facilities, but if pampering sessions are not your thing why not explore the great outdoors instead? The Upper Sûre National Park is listed as an area of outstanding beauty and his home to the reservoir of the country’s drinking water. You can indulge in water sports on the lake too.
